Berwick-upon-Tweed is celebrating 900 years of history … and everyone’s invited!

WHAT IS THE GREAT PERFORMING ROPE?

The Great Performing Rope is an arts project that weaves together the stories, histories and hopes for the future that make Berwick unique.

2015 is the year that Berwick upon Tweed celebrates 900 years of history. Inspired by the town’s history of rope making and the legendary rope walks that residents and visitors to Berwick still remember, the Great Performing Rope is collecting the stories, memories and aspirations of the people who know and love Berwick.

Would you like to contribute to the Great Performing Rope and become part of an ambitious outdoor event to be presented in Berwick between 22-25 October 2015, celebrating 900 years of history of the town and looking forward to 900 more?

What’s your story? Do you have a special memory of Berwick – a person, a place, a moment in time?

What do you hope for the future of the town?  You may live in Berwick, visit the town on holiday, work or have family there? Whatever your connection you can post your story online here.  You will also find postcards and post-boxes all around the area collecting contributions.

What will happen to your story? Your memories, stories and aspirations will be presented along the route of a continuous piece of rope that will occupy the streets, public buildings and parks of Berwick over the weekend of 22- 25 October 2015.

By making a contribution to the project you will also be helping to build a digital archive of material that will form a unique time capsule, capturing Berwick in its 900th year, for a Berwick of the future to explore and enjoy in another 900 years time.
