Berwick-upon-Tweed is celebrating 900 years of history … and everyone’s invited!

Berwick 900 aims to foster links with people regionally, nationally and internationally who have family associations with Berwick-upon-Tweed. We invite you to explore your roots here during 2015 and beyond.

The Berwick 900 Family History Festival was a highlight of Berwick 900  in October.  It was part of a project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund that involves local volunteers researching stories of local families and individuals with connections to the themes that are central to the Berwick 900 celebrations.

The material gathered were used in events throughout 2015 including a weekend of performances, displays and talks marking the 200th anniversary of the capture of Holy Island Castle by Northumbrian Jacobites and the parts played by local  families during the 1715 and 1745 Risings.
